Top Things To Do in Fort Worth This Weekend August 9th-11th
The musical Annie is a worldwide phenomenon and is the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Gateway Performing Arts showcases new talent this summer, joining Annie on all of her adventures with President Roosevelt, Oliver Warbucks, and Grace Farrell.
A SHOW WITH A CAUSE
Each summer, Gateway Performing Arts supports a local organization that’s changing lives. Zoie’s Place is this year’s benefactor. Zoie’s Place prepares foster teens for adulthood and independence in our community. Zoie’s Place has an impeccable reputation, integrity in their dealings and a proven track record of providing quality care in helping girls aging out of foster care.
You can donate in two ways when you experience ANNIE:
1. While you’re purchasing your show tickets.
2. During the performance you attend.
For every $5 raffle ticket you purchase, you’ll be entered into a drawing with more than 40 awesome prizes donated from local businesses. All proceeds from raffle tickets directly benefit Zoie’s Place. Companies who’ve donated prizes will be credited by name in our show program, pre and post show video announcements as well as in the lobby signage and on our social media!
2) Texas All Star Craft Beer, Wine, and Cocktail Festival at Globe Life Park
There are Beer Festivals. There are Wine Festivals. There are Food Festivals. But we’ve got ALL three!…Oh, and baseball. That’s because, as the saying goes, E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G is bigger in Texas.
When Texas throws a party, Texas throws a party— and this one-of-a-kind beer bash offers guests the most popular craft beer, wine and cocktail selections (including some from of our own, home-grown breweries), with live music, outdoor games, giveaways and the chance to experience it all along with some Major League Baseball history. The Texas All-Star Craft Beer, Wine & Cocktail Festival at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas plays host to the biggest beer, wine and cocktail festival to ever hit the Lone Star State.
The event will be held on Saturday, August 10th 2019 with evening sessions from 6:30pm to 11:30pm. And while we commonly boast that everything is bigger in Texas, we also know that it’s HOTTER in Texas, especially in August. Guests can stay cool with water misting stations and our VIP and Ultra VIP ticket holders will enjoy air-conditioning, VIP areas, a wine lounge and more. Our team of volunteers will be ready to offer you a glass of water or a water hose — whatever it takes to keep you cool at THE COOLEST festival to ever hit DFW’s sports and entertainment mecca. And speaking of weather, the event will go on in rain or shine. And, of course, it could be either because this is Texas, ya’ll!

All offer great ticket choices for an incredible theatre experience. Find out where you want to support the Arts this weekend!
4) Anime at The Modern 2019
Join The Modern as they celebrate the Japanese anime genre — films that are visually stunning, richly imaginative, and poetic in their storytelling. This summer’s films feature critically acclaimed award winners for Best Animated Feature Film (one Academy Award and two Japanese Academy Awards.)
Screenings will be held in the Modern’s auditorium. Tickets are $10, $9 for Modern members, $7 for Modern Reel People members, and $5 for children under 12. Click here for tickets or visit the Modern’s admission desk during operating hours.
5) Dierks Bentley at Dos Equis Pavilion
Dierks is one of those Big Concerts east of 360 that deserve mention to Fort Worth country music fans! Dos Equis Pavilion is still a great venue for concerts, whether under the huge fans under the roof or on the lawn. If you like you some Dierks, click here to find out more info and ticket details.

With the Texas Rangers on the road and still a few weeks until the college and pro football seasons kick off, you might just need some live boxing to fill that void. Theatre at Grand Prairie is a convenient venue from any place in DFW, especially Fort Worth fans, who just hop on I-30 to the Belt Line exit.
The match-up between Vergil Ortiz Jr. vs. Antonio Orozco, sure to be a slug-fest, is a 12-round fight for the WBA Gold Welterweight Title presented by Golden Boy. It’s a stacked card all night long so click here for details and get your tickets NOW!
Disclaimer: What’s Up Fort Worth features many events in other cities (including Dallas) when our staff feels that the event has DFW market-wide interest and that fans in Fort Worth and Tarrant County will make the trek to Dallas for the event.
