Pet-Friendly Restaurants and Patios In Fort Worth
By Anna Caplan
Anna Caplan is a Fort Worth freelance critic who has contributed reviews and news to the Star-Telegram since 2009. These are her dogs’ top picks for the area’s best pet-friendly patios in Fort Worth.
Now that spring is around the corner, and the weather has taken a turn for the better: What better time than to let the dogs out?
At the man’s best friend-ly MUTTS Canine Cantina in Clearfork, BYOD is a thing, and there are even different areas for small dogs and large ones. Or, if you and your dog have trouble separating, you can dine with your canine on the festive patio.
Burgers and crinkle-cut fries, beers on tap and sunny views of the nearby Trinity River never looked so good.
But even before the opening of MUTTS, pet-friendly patios in Fort Worth were nothing to bark at. I asked my two Great Pyrenees, Luna and Frank Caplan, where they like to go for people watching, good food and bones galore. Here are their favorites:
Perched along the picturesque Trinity, this Tim Love production features a Pup Menu. From dog-approved Rain Water to rawhide bones dipped in the barbecue joint’s “Pit Master Fat,” all dogs here go to heaven.
Just a block away from MUTTS, Press also offers another Trinity-abutting pro-dog experience. While the food here skews higher-brow than most pet-friendly joints, your dog is sure to be at home with the venue’s laidback vibe and adjacent green space.
Magnolia Motor Lounge
At this popular bar off West 7th Street, you can find live music—and your dog can too. Enjoy a night on the patio with your pet, where the menu practically endorses such endeavors: The Junk Yard Dog—a deep-fried hot dog—will make anyone drool.
HG Sply Co.
Your dog might not dig the vegan queso, but there’s plenty else to love at this WestBend spot. An expansive back patio grants much-needed shade, and the scene is thoroughly pet-friendly. In fact, Luna Caplan has been known to lap up the lamb meatballs with abandon.
At this Sundance Square favorite, the menu practically screams “gastropup.” Excellent fish and chips, roast chicken and steak frites await, and thanks to the terrific see-and-be-scene patio, your dog will be in happy company.
Chadra Mezza and Grill
With its long-running Pooches on the Patio Wednesdays, Chadra set the early mark for dog-friendly patios in Fort Worth–that just happen to serve excellent food. Enjoy Middle Eastern specialties while your dog takes a doze in this quiet back patio. Or if your canine’s feeling amorous, he can always share the hummus for two with a new friend.
With a name that practically screams “dog friendly,” Cane Rosso might just serve the best pizza in town–and the perfect pooch patio to boot. Owner Jay Jerrier is known for his dedication to rescued dogs, so you know your own is in good stead at this Magnolia Avenue pizza haven.
